| Breast Cancer Awareness Month City Of Englewood Office of the Mayor Proclamation
WHEREAS, October 2005 is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month; and
WHEREAS, over 200,000 new cases of female breast cancer will be diagnosed in 2005 and over 40,000 will die of the disease; and
WHEREAS, almost 1,500 new cases of male breast cancer will be diagnosed in 2005 and close to 500 will die of the disease; and
WHEREAS, early detection and prompt treatment can significantly reduce suffering and deaths caused by this disease; and WHEREAS, mammography, an “x-ray” of the breast, is recognized as the single most effective method of detecting breast changes that may be cancer long before physical symptoms can be seen or felt.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Michael J. Wildes, Mayor of the City of Englewood, do hereby proclaim the month of October 2005 as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
